Health is a state of harmonious balance of a being. Our body is a biochemical engine of amazing complexity. Complex nature of the body constitution should not deter us from understanding it as it can be broken into several systemic components and there is a common theme running in its make up.

We are basically made up of cells at the micro level. But, before even going there it is important to note that all the components in the Universe are made up of electrons, protons, neutrons which in turn gather to make up atoms, which in turn form molecules. Several complex molecular structural combinations are behind the formation of a single cell. Understanding these facts are important in grasping the free radical damage due to oxidation which is a major contributor to deterioration of health in general.

To start with let me outline few important life style aspects that may be of help in building a better health.

1. Organic Foods

To the extent possible, eat organic foods as pesticides can cause damage to cellular system.

2. Eat a Balanced Diet

At each meal, try to balance portions of mainly three components of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

3. Eat Wholefoods

To the extent possible, try to eat foods in their wholesome state such as brown rice. Try to eat an orange rather than drinking orange juice etc. This concept is important in maintaining glycemic balance which is an important factor in avoiding wild swings in blood sugar which in turn can lead to insulin resistance, obesity, diabetes and other complications.

4. Eat Good Fats and Avoid Bad Fats

Contrary to popular belief, all fats are not bad and we do need good fats for better health. Extra virgin olive oil, flax seeds, fish oil and any nuts in general can be part of a well balanced diet.

Examples of bad fats are partially hydrogenated oils, trans fats etc. which the body will have difficult time handling and can cause disease states.

5. Vitamins and Minerals

It is important to understand the roles of various vitamins and minerals in maintaining properly balanced health. As the top soil has been depleted of important nutrients over extended periods of agriculture, the nutrient composition and density that is needed for proper health might be compromised.

6. Exercise

Moderate exercise to get improved oxygen supply to various parts of the body.

7. Meditation

Stress reduction helps the mind to calm down which can restore balance to various systems of the body.

8. Positive Attitude

An optimistic and positive attitude towards life no matter what the circumstances may be, will help the body running in harmony.
